FAQ

macOS requires this permission for any app that needs to detect mouse button clicks globally. Without it, the system simply won't let myMouseMagic see your extra button presses. The app uses this permission only to detect clicks — it never records or sends any data.
Any mouse with extra buttons beyond left and right click — side buttons, thumb buttons, top buttons. This includes popular models like Logitech MX Master, Logitech G502/G Pro, Razer DeathAdder/Basilisk, SteelSeries Rival/Aerox, Corsair Dark Core, and many others. Both USB and Bluetooth mice are supported. Apple Magic Mouse is not supported since it only has two buttons.
Gesture mode simulates a real trackpad swipe — it works everywhere on macOS, including in Finder, Safari, Preview, and any other app that supports swipe navigation. Keyboard mode sends a keyboard shortcut instead — it works well for going back/forward in browsers but doesn't trigger system gestures like Mission Control. We recommend Gesture mode for most users.
No. Apple's Magic Mouse only has left click and right click — there are no extra buttons to remap. myMouseMagic is designed for third-party mice that have additional side or thumb buttons, like the Logitech MX Master or Razer DeathAdder.
Absolutely safe. myMouseMagic works 100% offline — it never connects to the internet, never collects any data, and never sends anything anywhere. Your settings are stored only on your Mac. You can verify this yourself: the app makes zero network requests.
Yes! Open the app settings, go to the Profiles tab, and click "+" to add an app. Then customize what each button does in that specific app. For example, you can set the side button to go back a page in Safari, but open Mission Control in Photoshop. The app switches profiles automatically when you switch between apps.
By default, macOS only uses side buttons for basic back/forward in some apps. With myMouseMagic, you can assign them to much more powerful actions — Mission Control, App Exposé, Show Desktop, Launchpad — and have different settings per app. It turns those underused buttons into real productivity shortcuts.
SteerMouse and BetterMouse are paid apps. Logi Options+ only works with Logitech mice and can be resource-heavy. Razer Synapse has very limited macOS support. myMouseMagic is free, works with any mouse brand, runs silently in the menu bar, uses minimal resources, and collects zero data. It's a lightweight universal solution.
No. myMouseMagic works independently of any vendor software. You don't need Logi Options+, Razer Synapse, Corsair iCUE, or SteelSeries GG installed. In fact, it's often easier to use myMouseMagic instead of those tools, since it's lighter and works with every mouse brand.
